Kiawah Island is a popular beach and golf destination so we recommend that you book accommodations early. Below you will find information regarding the island, where to stay and how to get around, and we encourage you to read through all of it thoroughly since Kiawah is such a unique location.

Kiawah Island will provide wedding guests in attendance access to the Island for the weekend. Upon your arrival at the gate, speak to the attendant and let them know you are a guest of the Johnson/McGeough wedding. They will provide you with additional information and access for the weekend.

Charleston International Airport (CHS) is the closest airport and where you will want to book your flight in and out of. Kiawah Island is about 45 minutes from the airport.

Wedding Day Transportation Updated


To those who requested transportation, it will be provided to and from the River Course venue on March 1st by SC Express and SC Coach. The Sprinter Bus or MiniBus will be labeled Johnson/McGeough Wedding.

Car Rental: Car rentals are readily available at the Charleston airport and can be booked. We highly recommend this option for maximum flexibility or if you are not staying at a Kiawah Island Golf Resort accommodation with access to the on island shuttle. Kiawah Island will have a list of all wedding guests in attendance for the weekend. If renting a car, they will provide you with a Gate Pass for your dashboard for weekend access upon arrival. Make sure to speak to the attendant when you arrive and share you are a guest of the Johnson/McGeough wedding.




Car Service: If not renting a car, the best way to travel to and from the Charleston airport and Kiawah Island will be to book a car service in advance of your stay. Car service options include: SC Express (www.scexpresscharleston.com) and Island Transportation Services (www.island-transportation.com).


You can also book car service via the concierge at The Kiawah Island Resort Villa’s and Private Home Rentals (phone: 843-768-2790) or The Sanctuary (phone: 843-768-6251), if you are staying at one of those locations.


The On Island Shuttle: Once on the island, guests have access to the complimentary Kiawah Island shuttles if staying at a Kiawah Island Golf Resort accommodation (villa and home rentals through KIGR or The Sanctuary), which can take you to any resort restaurant or amenity across the island. Call extension 82900 and the shuttle will pick you up within 30 minutes of your call (noting pick up can take longer during busy weekend times). The shuttle only runs during specified hours.


Rideshare: Uber and Lyft services are sometimes available at the airport but are often unreliable with low volume of availability to the island. Ubers are able to get on the island, but Lyft will charge a fee. Uber and Lyft services are not available once on Kiawah Island.

We encourage booking hotel rooms, villas, and houses through the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, as these come with significant perks including complimentary shuttle service to resort venues around the island, access to resort pools, discounts and preferred reservations for golf and tennis, and preferred dining and spa reservations.

In addition to homes available through Kiawah Island Resort, there are also many properties that can be rented through Akers Ellis, Kiawah Exclusives, Sweet Grass Rental Homes, Airbnb, and VRBO.

You're also welcome to stay in Charleston proper if you'd like. Please note that there will be about an hour commute from the city to the island.
